A Good Example of A "Petaca", A document Trunk From South America ,Possibly Bolivia.

The Wooden Box Has Been Covered With Leather Which Was Then Carved with Knives and Chisels To Skilfully Produce an Elegant Design of Florid ,Leafy Tendrils.

Over the succesive Two Hundred And Fifty Years,The Leather Has Hardened And Developed A Deep, Rich Patina. Along Its Life It Has Aquired Minimal Damage.Some Stitching Has Become Worn At The Corners,And a Small area of Leather has Become Detatched And is Now Missing ( see images for details).

All in All, A Rare Survivor With Elegant Design, and Rich Patina.
